Same-Sex Proposal on Crowded Beijing Subway Restores Faith in Humanity

Members of the crowd shouted "kiss him" and "be together."

After seeing the worst in humanity earlier today, it’s nice when we can relish in sweet moments like a couple getting engaged in public. In a short clip uploaded to YouTube, a Beijing man kneels in the middle of a crowded subway car to ask for his partner’s hand in marriage.

"I want everyone I know or I don't know to witness this," he announced, according to CNN’s translation. "I will be loving you for the rest of my life." The enthusiastic crowd verbalized their support with shouts of "be together," "say yes," and "kiss him." And lucky for him, his boyfriend said yes.

It’s a far cry from two decades ago, when gay couples faced arrest as the result of strict sodomy laws or classification as mentally ill. Congrats.
