Fifty Shades Darker will introduce a woman from Christian Grey’s (Jamie Dornan) past who will revel in stirring up trouble between the wealthy businessman and his flame, Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). Varietyreports that Kim Basinger has signed on to play Elena Lincoln, Grey’s former abuser lover who taught him everything he knows about BDSM.
Their disturbing relationship earned the ire of many of the book's readers because he was 15 years old and she was old enough to be a friend of his mother’s when she seduced assaulted him. In the present, they own a salon together and remain friendly—much to Steele’s chagrin.
While most of the cast from the first film is returning, Sam Taylor-Johnson will not be back to direct. Instead, James Foley will take the helm. He directed 1987’s Who’s That Girl along with a slew of TV shows like House of Cards and Billions.
Fifty Shades Darker is set to tantalize the big screen on February 10, 2017.
