In this week's edition of things we never asked for, Jake Paul is apparently working on the development of a talk show with YouTube Red. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is projected to have the feel of a late-night variety show, even though YouTube Red does not have programming blocks.
A YouTube spokeswoman confirmed the project on Thursday. She said in a statement, "Last year, we engaged in early development deals with a handful of YouTube creators as part of our normal process to evaluate new creative ideas. There is no series order currently in place."
The series, which has not yet received a title, will be produced by Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens' Propagate Content with Five All in the Fifth Entertainment and Douglas Banker executive producing. The pilot, which could be shot as early as May, will be executive produced by Gavin Purcell, the showrunner of I Love You, America, Sarah Silverman's Hulu talk show. Paul, 21, is set to host and executive produce the show.
Paul rose to some level of fame through his Vine (RIP) videos. He now has over 14 million YouTube subscribers. The vlogger posts videos of himself with his squad "Team 10" and his equally moronic brother Logan, who are "are always making comedy vids, acting, doing action sports, and going on crazy adventures," according to his Youtube page.
Logan Paul recently posted a video of himself exploring Japan's Aokigahara forest which included the blurred out image of a suicide victim. YouTube removed Logan from its top advertising tier and indefinitely suspended all original projects with him. Logan said he would donate $1 million to suicide prevention.
