Roy Wood Jr. made the most of his onstage appearance at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday night.

While former The Daily Show host Trevor Noah accepted an Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series, he was joined by the show's crew and other members of the rotating correspondents, including Wood. While other people on stage were oblivious, Wood mouthed “Please hire a host,” which later went viral on X, as at-home viewers pointed out his statement.

Wood later responded to the clip, claiming that he was "trying to do that in [sic] the low."

As Anthony Anderson hosted the awards ceremony, Wood's statement was pointed at The Daily Show, where he was a correspondent and guest host for eight years and once campaigned to host the political talk show. Last October, Wood announced his departure following the end of Noah's seven-year run as host. Throughout 2023, multiple guest hosts took on the role, including Marlon Wayans, Desus Nice, and Hasan Minhaj, while a permanent host isn't expected to be announced until later this year.

"I'm grateful to Trevor Noah, Paramount and especially Comedy Central for giving me the runway to also produce three one-hour stand-up specials, for letting me host two award winning podcasts, letting me write & shoot my own comedy pilot, write a film, and much, much more," Wood said in a statement last year, per USA Today. "I look forward to finding other ways to collaborate with them down the road."
