After the massive success of the first season of Netflix’s Korean-drama, Squid Game is undeniable. The show has already become one of the streamer’s most popular ever, and now creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has not only talked about how he plans to continue the story in Season 2, but that he and Netflix are already in talks about a Season 3.

According to CBR, who cited the Korean pop culture website Soompi, Hwang Dong-hyuk did an interview with KBS where he explained the central plot for Squid Game Season 2.

“The focus [of the season] will be the story of [Lee Jung Jae‘s character] Seong Gi Hun unraveling [the mysteries of the organization behind the game],” he said. “The overarching plotline of Season 2 will be the story of the people that Gi Hun meets and the people he chases after.”

Although a second and third season of the hit series has yet to be finalized, Hwang said that he and Netflix are nearing the end of their talks to iron out the details for it.

“I think we’ll be reaching some sort of conclusion [to our discussions] soon,” the show’s creator said. “We know that many people are waiting, so everyone is working hard to prepare for the next season with a positive outlook.”

Hwang also confirmed that he was working on Squid Game Season 2 back in November. The director talked about it at a red carpet event where he said that he already had the “basic storyline” in his head.

“It’s all in my head,” Hwang said. “I have the basic storyline, the broad plan, so we’re in the brainstorming stages. I think with the success as big as this one, I almost feel like it would not make sense to create a Season 2 and I also feel like there are going to be some fans kind of trying to stalk me where I live and do something to me if I don’t give them a second season. So I’m going to go ahead and say there will be a second season. But as for when I cannot tell you now.”

Now it’s just a matter of time before audiences across the globe are thrust back into the captivating world of Squid Game.

Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for Season 2.
