Lil Nas X has continued to blaze his own path in rap and pop culture, and in his latest cover story for Variety, the young artist revealed that he priorities music above much else, including a chance to be on the popular HBO series Euphoria.
“I was actually going to do Euphoria, but I didn’t want to take time away from finishing my album,” he explained about turning down the role. “I definitely want to get into acting, but I feel I have to give it my all, and I want to focus on music for right now. I want my first movie to be amazing.”
A chance to dip into the world of movies and TV would make sense for Lil Nas X, especially considering how cinematic his music videos are.
When talking about the polarizing visual for his song “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” Lil Nas explained how people would ask his dad about it immediately after it dropped, but it really just made him an even bigger fan of his son’s music.
“People were definitely talking to him online,” X said, “but I feel like after the videos is when my dad became the most supportive of me. Before that, it was something we never really talked about. But after he gave it some time, he believed in me even more. I mean, it wasn’t that reaction when he first [saw the video],” he laughed, “but you know, we got there!”
The rapper recently surpassed DaBaby and became Spotify’s most listened to male artist with 52 million monthly listeners. He took to Twitter to celebrate the milestone.
“Wow this is insane,” he tweeted. “This is the most i’ve ever had in my career. Thank u to everybody listening.”
