Spike Jonze's upcoming Beastie Boys documentary has found a home.

Jonze's Beastie Boys Story was acquired by Apple, Variety reports. Though it's set to begin streaming on AppleTV+ on April 24, it will have a limited run in IMAX theaters beginning on April 3.

The documentary was written by the Academy Award-winning director along with Mike Louis Diamond (Mike D) and Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) of the Beastie Boys. The film tells the group's origin story as well as details how they've maintained a friendship for nearly 40 years. Along with co-writing the film, Jonze directed and produced the project, while Diamond and Horovitz both serve as the film's executive producers.

“There are some friends you have lunch with so many times over the years, you know their order,” Mike D and Ad-Rock said in a statement. “Spike is one of those friends. And even when you don’t recognize anything on the menu, he comes up with something good for the whole table. Like when we wondered what to do when our book comes out... then Spike placed his order: You will put on a show for the children.”

Jonze and the Beastie Boys have been connected for some time. During an interview in 2003, the group reflected on meeting the then-budding Jonze around the release of their 1992 album, Check Your Head.

"He filmed a bunch of stuff live," Mike D. recalls at the above clip's 30-second mark. "That was like his first—an early experience."

Their professional relationship grew and Jonze went on to direct the video for "Sabotage," which to this day remains one of the most influential music videos of all time.

Speaking about their latest collaboration, Jonze added, "“I owe Beastie Boys a lot. One time, they pulled me out of a burning ship, and another time they helped me cheat on my college exam to get into Florida State. So, it was a real privilege to get to reunite with them and help them tell their story.”
