After Black Panther's record-breaking performance at the box office, Marvel swiftly informed fans they would be making a sequel. Now, the studio has hinted that Black Panther 2 is inching its way towards production.

While talking to Marvel president Kevin Feige, BET inquired about the running rumor that Michael B. Jordan's character Killmonger would be returning in the next film.

"Pure rumor," Feige said, but he did disclose that Jordan's close creative partner and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is in the beginning stages of putting together Black Panther 2. "The honest answer to [Killmonger] is that is pure rumor and speculation, because Mr. Coogler is just only in recent weeks sitting down at his keyboard and beginning to outline the movie. It's early, so nothing is set yet in any way that far, because Mr. Coogler is sitting down and will share it with Nate Moore and myself in coming weeks."

In the first installment, Killmonger died in one of the most talked about scenes of any Marvel Cinematic Universe film. But it's well-known that no death is certain when it comes to Marvel. This combined with Jordan's performance has fans hopeful he'll make a return.

Although Feige claims to be unaware of what Coogler has in store, he admitted upon Black Panther's 2018 release that the studio has "ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one." After the mayhem that ensued during Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, fans are intrigued to see how Black Panther 2 will fit into the Marvel's overarching storyline. But there is no public timetable as to when these questions might be answered.
