Kristen Stewart is vouching for her ex-boyfriend and former Twilight co-star.
While discussing her upcoming film Seberg with Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival, Stewart expressed her excitement about the news of Robert Pattinson playing Bruce Wayne in the new Batman movie.
"I feel like he’s the only guy that could play that part," Stewart said. "I am so happy for him, it's crazy... I'm very, very happy about that. I heard that and I was like, 'Oh man!' It's awesome!"
Stewart has been vocal in the past about her desires to be casted as a superhero. But during an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK, Stewart explained that her people close to her felt her sexual fluidity would stop her from being tapped by Marvel.
"I have fully been told, 'If you just like do yourself a favor, and don't go out holding your girlfriend's hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie,'" Stewart said. "I don't want to work with people like that." When talking to Variety about this concept, she explained that this comment didn't come from the studio directly rather it's a notion that she doesn't agree with.
"That’s been a conversation that’s always existed," Stewart stated. "I’ve always radically rejected it." She added that it wasn’t just Marvel Studios that specifically encouraged her to hide her queer identity to get bigger roles, "it was literally just a big conglomerate-y type thing. I’m sure they would love to hire the gay kids to be superheroes."
So when asked if she wanted to be a gay superhero, Stewart quickly said: "I’m down... I'm definitely not turning that down."
Back on the Pattinson front, ex-Batman Christian Bale was also at TIFF (being interviewed alongside to Ben Affleck's BFF Matt Damon) and gave his quick take on the casting. "Good choice, he’s interesting,” Bale told Variety. “I’m sure he’ll come up with something interesting.”
