Good news for The Mandalorian fans: Disney CEO Bob Chapek confirmed that the coronavirus pandemic will not stall production on the second season of the popular Star Wars series.
During an interview with CNBC, Chapek explained that only projects that were already in production were impacted by the on-going pandemic. That means shows that are in pre-production, post-production, or in the developmental stage are still firing on all cylinders.
"We have a certain amount of inventory, particularly for Disney+, which is fueling the machine," he said. "It's important to note though that pre-production, the development phase, can still happen during these times of lockdown, and post-production still happens."
He went on to state that the Season 2 of Disney+'s The Mandalorian wrapped in March before the coronavirus took hold.
"So it's only films that are mid-stream, right in the middle of production. Take for example Mandalorian. Mandalorian was shot before COVID really hit," Chapek continued. "And so we’ve been in post, and there will be no delay on Mandalorian. Same thing with Black Widow, which is coming out in November."
The Mandalorian's second season is expected to hit Disney+ in early October. Boba Fett will reportedly make an appearance in this arc along with Bo-Katan Kyreze (played by Katee Sackhoff). Ant-Man director Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez will direct episodes, and Rosario Dawson will make an appearance portraying The Clone Wars hero Ahsoka Tano.
