You’re not having a case of déjà vu. Last month we told you June was the hottest month in Earth’s recorded history (that would be since the late 1800s FYI) but according to preliminary data from NASA, as well as the Japan Meteorological Administration, July is now the hottest month on record. You shouldn’t be too surprised considering cars were actually melting in parts of Europe because of the heat while Iran’s heat index was literally off the charts. And then there’s California.
The Earth is so hot right now—with 2015 set to be the hottest year on record—that research using tree rings, ice cores, and ocean coral formations show the Earth hasn’t been this warm in at least 4,000 years. El Niño certainly isn’t helping.
