2015 has already seen the nationwide legalization of marriage equality, now it see the Boy Scouts of America changing its policy and accepting gay leaders.
Boy Scouts of America President Robert Gates made the official announcement Monday,"On Monday July 27 the national executive board ratified a resolution removing the national restriction on openly gay leaders and employees.”
But there’s a catch. On July 13 the Boy Scouts of America said the resolution would still allow religious chartered organizations to choose leaders that they felt aligned with their beliefs. Meaning, these organizations were to be exempt from the ruling, leaving room for discrimination.
Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin said in a statement:
The decision comes two years after it was decided young gay scouts were allowed to be part of the membership.
