Warner Bros. Pictures has dropped the official trailer for Birds of Prey.

Starring Margot Robbie, the upcoming Harley Quinn spinoff is based on the DC comic of the same name and is the eighth film in the DC Extended Universe.

In an interview from last November, Mary Elizabeth Winstead—Robbie's co-star—shed more light on Birds of Prey's plot. "It's sort of a spinoff of Suicide Squad," she said. "It kind of follows Harley Quinn, which is Margot Robbie's character from those films, and this sort of girl gang that she puts together."

Quinn, who began her life as a foil and love interest for the Joker on Batman: The Animated Series, quickly grew into a fan favorite. Robbie spent two years pushing hard for the idea.

"I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, ‘Harley needs friends.’ Harley loves interacting with people, so don’t ever make her do a standalone film," she said in an interview last November. "She’s got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn’t seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it."

The Birds of Prey cast is rounded out by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, and Ewan McGregor, among others. The film's due Feb. 7, 2020.
