Check Out the Red Band Trailer for 'Ingrid Goes West,' Starring Aubrey Plaza

The Matt Spicer-directed film hits theaters Aug. 11.

Aubrey Plaza takes internet stalking to another level in the latest red band trailer for Ingrid Goes West.

The upcoming dark comedy tells the story of Ingrid Thorburn (Plaza), a lonely and potentially psychotic young woman who becomes obsessed with a social media celebrity named Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen). Following her mother’s death and a number of stumbling blocks, the protagonist decides to leave her Pennsylvania hometown and head to Los Angeles, where she intends to meet her idol and get a taste of her seemingly perfect life. Unsurprisingly, Ingrid’s senseless decision leads to more erratic and dangerous scenarios, some of which are shown in the trailer above.

The film also stars Wyatt Russell, Billy Magnussen, and O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton). In an interview with Birth. Movies. Death. earlier this year, Jackson discussed his involvement in the film and how Plaza’s mild stalking led to him getting the role. He said he had tried to meet Plaza during an awards show, but missed his chance after he was stopped by fans. Later in the night, he tweeted about the missed opportunity, which caught Plaza’s attention.

“Well, Aubrey and I really stalked each other. I've been a fan of Aubrey's for a while and we were at an awards show. I was heading over to meet her, it was a big moment for me,” the actor explained.

“She hits me and we start communicating back and forth. She says, ‘I have this movie I want you to check it out,’” he said. “We exchange numbers, set up a meeting, and when she gave me her number I texted her ‘Hey, it's Batman,’ just because I'm a lunatic and I just think I'm Batman. Not because I had read the script, not because I had known the character or anything about the film, and she took that as me giving it a thumbs up, that I'm down to do it. So she tells the director, she tells the producers, ‘yeah, he's down to do it,’ and, it turns out, I hadn't read a thing.”
