In what is slowly becoming a mini-tradition on this season of Saturday Night Live, Leslie Jones once again took her own personal trauma and turned it into comedy. In an episode earlier this year, Jones enlisted the help of the Mr. Robot crew to find out who was behind the hack that leaked her personal information and nude photos online. On Saturday, Jones once again addressed the incident, this time alongside Colin Jost on Weekend Update.
Jones was on hand to discuss cyber-terrorism, and decided to put her anonymous hackers on blast. “All they did was release some nude pics of me,” a typically fired up Jones said. “Which is nothing because, I don't know if y'all know this about me, but I ain't shy." Jones explained that she didn’t really mind that hack because she’s comfortable with who she is. “I keep my porn in a folder labeled 'porn.' If you want to see Leslie Jones naked, just ask," she told the raucous audience. “Just Ask."
Jones’ willingness to poke fun at the online abuse she’s faced is perhaps the best response to a community of Internet trolls who have systematically attacked the star ever since she was cast in the all-female Ghostbusters remake. "What I'm trying to say is, if you wanna hurt anybody these days, you're gonna have to do way more than leak their nudes or call them names—you can't embarrass me more than I have embarrassed myself. I know all the details, cause I was there," Jones added.
Besides, as Jones tells it, she’s faced a lot worse in her life. "Colin, do you think some words on the internet can hurt me?” She asked. “I once had a crazy b*tch try to beat me with a shovel at a bus stop because I took her spot on the bench. Now that's a troll. Real trolls ain't tapping on keyboards, they're swinging shovels."
The segment ended on an emotional note, as an empowered Jones talked about the power of self-acceptance. "Trust me, at a certain point, you stop being embarrassed and start being you. And I have been me for 49 years,” she said. “Because the only person who can hack me is me, and my firewall is a crazy b*tch with a shovel."
