Self-proclaimed Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders has cut Hillary Clinton's lead to only seven percentage points in the key state of Iowa where he now trails her 30 percent to 37 percent, according to a new poll cited by CNN.

The numbers show a giant leap in the Vermont senator's popularity since an early poll in January had him polling at only 5 percent there.

Some other interesting numbers from the poll show that Sanders is gaining support based on his platform, and not just because people don't want another Clinton in the White House. Ninety-six percent of Bernie backers said they support his ideas, and only 2 percent said they'd pick him just to block Clinton.

Sanders also has way fewer haters overall, according to the poll. From CNN:

Maybe it's those endorsements from Deez Nuts and Lil B that are helping Sanders gain momentum.

Although we like to think it has more to do with Sanders' progressive "racial justice" reform policy, his willingness to embrace the "Black Lives Matter" movement and his platform to radically reduce income and wealth inequality in this country.
