The sequel to Venom is scheduled to arrive next year, and the titular character will have more than one villain to face off against. Deadline reports that Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock will not only fight the symbiote-possessed serial killer Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage; he will also take on Marvel Comics character Shriek. Two sources close to the production said she has been incorporated into the plot, but since it won't start principal photography until next year it's not certain just yet.

Kasady will be played by Woody Harrelson, who had a brief cameo during a mid-credits sequence at the end of Venom. It's not been revealed who will play Shriek in the currently untitled sequel, but the character has often been depicted as a lover of Kasady's in comics. The casting process is reportedly already underway.

“Right now the role is not filled, the net is cast wide toward many kinds of actresses,” a source explained. The filmmakers are allegedly “looking mostly at unknowns right now.” Andy Serkis will take on directorial duties in place of Ruben Fleischer, who directed the first film.

Earlier this week, Fleischer all but confirmed the series is heading toward a confrontation with Tom Holland's Spider-Man. "That’s where it’s all going to lead," the director explained of the sequel he's no longer attached to. “And that’s the exciting thing, because we changed the origin of Venom. ... In the comics, he evolved from Spider-Man but because of the Marvel-Sony thing we weren’t able to that. And so the thing I think it’s building towards, and will be exciting to see, is when they actually do confront each other."
