Ahead of its release this holiday season, Microsoft and developer 343 Industries have unveiled an extensive look at campaign footage from Halo Infinite.

Offering a breakdown of the single-player portion of the game, the new trailer showcases the fresh approach 343 is taking with the Halo franchise. Familiar in its world design and core gameplay, Infinite promises to be the most open game in the series to date. The return of Master Chief looks particularly sharp, especially in comparison to previous generation counterparts.

Infinite is the long-awaited sequel to Halo 5: Guardians, which was released on Xbox One all the way back in 2015. Infinite was originally scheduled to be a launch title for the Xbox Series consoles last year, but due to development difficulties throughout the COVID-19 pandemic it was hit with an extensive delay.

The new game looks to finally follow up on the cliffhanger from the previous entry, allowing fans to discover what happened to Cortana.

The trailer is the first time Microsoft and 343 have shown off footage from the campaign since its lackluster debut showing in July 2020. Despite the lengthy delay, the game will not ship with co-op support for the campaign, or the Forge map editor for multiplayer. Those features will arrive later down the line, although the multiplayer suite of features at launch will be free to play, unlike the campaign.

Halo Infinite arrives on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on Dec. 8.
