The Kevin Hart anti-apology tour continues.
After proclaiming to the world that he's 100 percent, totally, unequivocally "over it" on Good Morning America, Hart continues his press rounds to promote his new movie The Upside and dance around questions about his Oscars controversy. “I’m done with it. It gets no more energy from me,” he said on Wednesday’s Good Morning America.
Hart's declaration didn't stop Stephen Colbert from pressing the comedian a bit more, during his visit to The Late Show Wednesday night, about his old homophobic tweets and, more importantly, his failure to apologize immediately to the LGBTQ community and fans.
ICYMI, in a tweet from 2011 Hart wrote, “Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughters doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay.’” He also wrote, “What ru some type of FAT F*G that takes pics of small black men all day?” in another tweet from 2009.
“Is there anything about the way you’ve handled this situation over the last month that you would go back and change if you had a time machine?” Colbert asked. When Hart says no, Colbert continued to question the Night School actor about his non-apology.
“I’ve found that it’s not over until the audience is over it, not when I’m over it. So do you have a sense that the audience is over it?” Colbert asked.
“Well, here’s the difference,” Hart replied. “You can continue to live to please others, or you can have a position where you know that you’ve literally done what you can to try to please. At that moment, when you know that you’ve given your all to try to please and it’s still not received, you have to make a decision to go, ‘I’m done trying to please.’”
There's a little more back and forth, but the conversation mostly ends there, without them coming to an agreement. Hart goes on to talk about some of the jokes he might have made had he hosted, even though he's the one who chose to step down and he absolutely could still host if he wanted to.
