It feels like Marvel and DC  are currently racing to see who can include more women and people of color into their franchises in front of and behind the camera. I don’t know who’s winning, but hey that means more representation when it comes to the various superhero universes—so yay!

According to Variety, DC Entertainment is bringing two more women superheroes into the fold for the Harley Quinn spinoff Birds of Prey. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be joining Margot Robbie, who is reprising her role as Quinn from 2016’s Suicide Squad. Winstead is playing the character Huntress, as Smollett-Bell takes on the role of Black Canary.

The studio is still working on casting the film’s possible villain, Roman Sionis/Black Mask, and so far Ewan McGregor and Sharlto Copley "are actors they like for the role." McGregor would be a nice fit, considering he starred in Fargo with Winstead, who also happens to be his girlfriend.

Still have Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain's roles to cast as well as the crime lord up against the team. Hearing names like Sharlto and Ewan McGreggor are actors they like for the role but have only started meeting actors for that part https://t.co/OaVfpTfkyM

In Birds of Prey, the gang of super women will take on the Gotham crime lord, but there are few other details out about the plot. Cathy Yan (a woman!) is directing the film, which is set to hit theaters on Feb. 7, 2020.
