If you’re in San Francisco, grab your pupper and head to the Roxie Theater to watch Wes Anderson’s latest masterpiece Isle of Dogs before it premieres nationwide on March 23.
According to IndieWire, the Roxie is hosting a BYOD (bring your own dog) event on Monday, March 19 at 7 p.m. to celebrate the new stop-motion film. The story follows a bunch of good boys who have been quarantined on an island in Japan following the outbreak of a canine flu. With the help of a heroic group of dogs, one boy searches the island trying to find his dog Spots, while escaping the clutches of the authorities patrolling the island.
The Roxie Theater event is the first of its kind, but hopefully the move will inspire other movie theaters across the country to allow viewers to bring their furry friends along with them to see the film. An official description of the event at Roxie Theater reads: “Dogs are invited and will be in attendance at this screening. Dogs and owners will each need to have a ticket to attend. You do not need to have/bring a dog to attend. Owners are responsible for their dog’s behavior. Overly aggressive or uncontrollable dogs will be asked to leave.”
Isle of Dogs is Anderson’s second stop-motion film, following Fantastic Mr. Fox from 2009. The star-studded cast includes many of the Texas native’s former collaborators from his past eight films, including Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Jeff Goldblum, and Edward Norton, alongside some new collaborators including Yoko Ono, Bryan Cranston, and Greta Gerwig.
