Paul Bettany Added to Upcoming Han Solo Film
The film will also feature Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, and Thandie Newton.
English actor and director Paul Bettany has signed on to act in the upcoming Star Wars stand-alone Han Solo film. Director Ron Howard took to Twitter to share a picture of the two and the news of Bettany's addition to the already star-studded cast. Howard wrote, "The Outer Rim just got a little bit wilder #PaulBettany #ForceFriday."
Other cast members for the Han Solo film include Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Joonas Suotamo. Following some back and forth over creative differences that included losing directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, news came out that Michael K. Williams will not appear in the film. Ron Howard came on board to direct.
Speaking to Deadline, Williams remarked, "When Ron Howard got hired to finish out the film, there were some reshoot issues that needed to be done in regards to my character, in order for it to match the new direction which the producers wanted Ron to carry the film in." He continued, "They wanted me now; I couldn’t go. So they had to clip-clip-clip."
Bettany has been in multiple films including A Knight's Tale, A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code, Iron Man, and The Avengers. May of next year will be a packed month for the 46-year-old actor. He will also reprise his role of Vision in Avengers: Infinity War, which will be out in the same month the Han Solo film is released. The currently untitled Han Solo Film should be out on May 25, 2018.
