It seems Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are no longer trying to reach a deal when it comes to Spider-Man's MCU future.

During Variety's Entertainment & Technology summit, Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra addressed the controversial split, stating, "for the moment the door is closed."

Vinciquerra went on to say that there was no bad blood between the studios, and suggested they may come to some kind of agreement down the road.

"We had a great run with (Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige) on Spider-Man movies," he said, according to Variety. "We tried to see if there’s a way to work it out….the Marvel people are terrific people, we have great respect for them, but on the other hand we have some pretty terrific people of our own. Kevin didn’t do all the work."

Sony and Marvel ended their Spider-Man agreement last month, after Disney (Marvel's parent company) offered a 50/50 co-financing arrangement that could've extended to other films within the Spider-Man universe. Sony rejected the offer, effectively removing Peter Parker from the MCU.

Marvel fans were, of course, upset over the decision, with some predicting the downfall of the Spider-Man franchise. Vinciquerra acknowledged the concerns, but reassured fans that the next web-slinger installments would not disappoint, despite Feige's absence.

"Spiderman was fine before the event movies, did better with the event movies, and now that we have our own universe, he will play off the other characters as well," Vinciquerra said. "I think we’re pretty capable of doing what we have to do here."

Tom Holland is expected to reprise his role as Peter Park for the next two Spider-Man films. The 23-year-old actor, who has portrayed the web-slinger since 2016, expressed his confidence in Sony during a recent interview with GQ.

"Sony has also been really good to me, and the global success of Spider-Man: Far From Home is a real testament to their support, skill, and commitment," he said. "The legacy and future of Spidey rests in Sony’s safe hands. I really am nothing but grateful, and I've made friends for life along the way."
