'The Chi' Star Sonja Sohn Arrested For Drug Possession

Sohn's arrest only adds to the off-camera drama surrounding 'The Chi.'

The Chi's Sonja Sohn has been arrested on drug charges, TMZ reports.

Sohn was arrested on Sunday morning in North Carolina for cocaine possession, marijuana possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Per TMZ, the marijuana and paraphernalia charges will be classified as misdemeanors but the possession of cocaine charge could be classified as a felony. The authorities say that Sohn was taken to the station around two in the morning, where she posted a $1,500 bail and was released six minutes later. The actress is set to be arraigned for these charges on Tuesday. 

Sohn gained notoriety for playing Detective Shakima Greggs on all five seasons of HBO's The Wire. Sohn now plays Laverne on Showtime's hit series The Chi. Sohn's arrest only adds to the off-camera drama surrounding The ChiJason Mitchell—who plays Sohn's son on the show—was dropped from the show following sexual assault accusations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, several women, including the actress cast to play Mitchell's girlfriend, Tiffany Boone, filed complaints with the network regarding Mitchell's actions. Although he was subjected to an HR training program, hi antics continued, eventually forcing Showtime to cut ties with the actor.

As The Chi gears up for its third season, it is unknown how Mitchell's departure and Sohn's legal troubles will affect her storyline on the show. A rep for TMZ reached out to Sohn's team about her arrest but have yet to receive a comment.
