'Descendants 3' Red Carpet Premiere Canceled in Light of Cameron Boyce's Death

Disney will make a donation to a charity that Cameron Boyce was “deeply committed” to.

The Disney Channel announced Thursday that the red carpet premiere of Descendants 3, which was scheduled for later this month, has been canceled in wake of the death of Cameron Boyce. Instead, Boyce will be honored with a donation from Disney to one of the charities that he was "deeply committed" to.

"We’re proud to be part of Cameron Boyce’s legacy by showcasing his talents on screen but we are canceling the red carpet premiere event for 'Descendants 3' scheduled for July 22 and instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organization to which Cameron was deeply committed," Disney Channel said in a statement, perUs Weekly. "Thank you for your understanding."

Boyce passed away at the age of 20 in his sleep on Saturday in his North Hollywood home. His family later confirmed that the actor suffered from epilepsy, and died from an epileptic seizure.

Cameron’s sister Maya, 17, shared the following heartfelt tribute to her "best friend" earlier today, saying that she was "with him hours before he died," and reflecting on the impact that he had on her life. 

Descendants 3 will premiere Friday, August 2, at 8 p.m. ET on the Disney Channel. The network hopes that “with permission from the Boyce family, Disney Channel will dedicate the telecast of ‘Descendants 3’ in Cameron Boyce’s memory.
