Sophie Turner is playing the blame game.
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, the Game of Thrones star was asked about her role in the now-infamous coffee cup-gate. For those who are unfamiliar with the continuity gaffe, here's what went down:
Though the craft services cup has since been erased from the episode, one big question remains: Who the hell left their drink in the frame?
Turner's new husband, Joe Jonas, had a strong suspicion of who was to blame.
"I watch a lot of Game of Thrones," Jonas said in a video message on The Tonight Show, "and I was wondering: You're definitely responsible for that coffee cup, right?"
Fallon then presented Turner with two photos: one of the coffee cup scene, and another in which she is holding a similar coffee cup on the GoT set.
But Turner wasn't about to take the fall.
"This is a spoiler for a couple of episodes ago: This girl dies," Turner said, as she pointed to the photo with Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey). "[...] And this is a scene from the episode after she dies! So why am I holding this coffee cup that's in a different scene?"
She continued: "And also, we all have the same cups for all of our water and tea and everything. So I'm going to just go with ... I mean, look who it's placed in front of. Emilia Clarke. She's the culprit."
Check out her convincing defense above.
Turner wasn't the only GoT star to place the blame on Clarke. During a recent interview on Conan, Liam Cunningham dropped the actress' name when speaking about the viral slip-up.
"These things happen, it’s a big job, people run in," he said. "And Emilia [Clarke] probably drinks too much coffee."
Clarke has been a good sport about all the accusations, but insists the cup wasn't hers.
"What a bastard!" Clarke jokingly told the Los Angeles Times, when asked about Cunningham's comments. "I don’t even drink Starbucks. I have no idea whose it was. Liam’s a cheeky one. The funny thing is in Belfast, there is no craft coffee selling Starbucks. Unless we’ve got the Americans in, some hotshot producer, and then we’ll have Starbucks lying around.”
The mystery continues.
