Jordan Peele's sophomore film Us has exceeded expectations

According to Deadline, the horror movie is projected to rake in close to $68 million by the time the weekend numbers are counted. This shatters the predictions that Us will generate between $38 million to $50 million after the movie grossed more than $27 million on Friday alone. Us will easily eclipse Peele's directorial debut Get Out, which opened to $33 million before going on a $176 million theatrical run.

Us has been highly anticipated from the jump because it comes from the director of Get Out. The second effort's hype was undoubtedly propelled by its star studded cast, which includes Lupita Nyong’o and Black Panther's Winston Duke.

No matter how you feel about #UsMovie the one thing I hope we all can agree on, after you all see it opening weekend, is that @Lupita_Nyongo deserves a best actress nomination. Two in fact. pic.twitter.com/BE2GM3JLAx

Us is also set to rake in more money overseas with 48 openings in international markets, including France, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
