After years of portraying Marvel superhero Hawkeye, Jeremy Renner will reportedly take on his next big comic book film.

According to a report by The Hashtag Show, the 47-year-old actor is rumored to star in Todd McFarlane’s highly anticipated Spawn reboot. Though the outlet could not confirm the deal was finalized, sources said Renner was in talks to play the film's lead role as detective Twitch Williams.

Per The Hashtag Show:

Whereas the 1997 film put the focus on Al Wilson’s family and his origins as Spawn, this film will have a different family at its epicenter […] Without giving anything away, we can expect Twitch and Spawn to be working together to track down some baddies and dish out a special kind of vengeance.

It’s also been reported that Spawn will not speak in the Blumhouse project, which leads many fans to believe most of the dialogue will come from Twitch.

“I like to explain that it's my Jaws. Spawn doesn't say a word the entire movie, and it's the same way with Jaws,” McFarlane told AZCentral earlier this year. “It's about the sheriff and the people, chasing the ghost. That's it ...The lead role isn’t Spawn, the lead role is a cop, like Sheriff Brody from Jaws. I think we can hook a fairly significant actor that we want. Unlike a superhero movie, we wouldn't need an actor to put on prosthetic (makeup) or go to the gym. We just need him to act.”

In late May, it was confirmed that Jamie Foxx had signed on to play Spawn’s titular antihero, after years of rumors and increasing anticipation. McFarlane spoke to Complex last week about Foxx’s involvement in the project and how he intends the actor to remain in the franchise for a couple of decades.

I would always try to tell him that with the version I had in my head, you can do it for the next 25 years. You don’t age out of it, like where a lot of ways that they shoot superheroes, you have to eventually go get a younger actor because there’s a lot of physical stuff. The Batman franchise is a good example where we now have three to four actors.

I like consistency, and so if I can create an idea where maybe the consistency would be Jamie willing to be in the character role for 20 years and then it’d be done, it would be cool.

Keep it locked as more information about the Spawn reboot, including its release date, becomes available.
