UPDATED 10/28 at 8:45 p.m. ET: Sources tell People magazine Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid have called it quits following reports that the British singer “struck” Gigi’s mother during an argument.

“They are not together right now. They are both good parents though,” a Hadid family friend told the outlet. “They co-parent. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild.”

A representative for Gigi did not confirm the assault or breakup allegations, simply telling People: “Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time.”

Gigi’s mom, Yolanda Hadid, has yet to publicly address the alleged incident.

Zayn Malik has addressed the assault allegations levied against him by Yolanda Hadid—the mother of his longtime partner, Gigi Hadid.

In a statement shared on social media Thursday, the 28-year-old singer addressed the claims he had struck Yolanda during an argument that occurred earlier this month. Though he didn’t name Yolanda, Zayn said the altercation began after one of Gigi’s relatives stopped by his home while Gigi was away. Sources tell TMZ that Zayn had “struck” Yolanda during the incident and that she was considering filing a police report.

Details of the alleged incident remain scarce, as none of the involved parties have indicated the root of the argument. Zayn told his Twitter followers that he is a “private person” who is focused on creating a “safe and private space” for Khai, his and Gigi’s 1-year-old daughter.

“… In an effort to protect that space for [my daughter] I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago,” he wrote. “This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been ‘leaked’ to the press.”

Zayn went on to say he remains “hopeful” he and everyone involved will heal from the incident, which included an exchange of “harsh words.”

He released the following statement to TMZ shortly after posting his message: “I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private.”

Yolanda has not public addressed the report, nor has Gigi. TMZ spotted Yolanda in NYC’s SoHo on Thursday, and questioned her about the alleged assault. The former reality TV star refused to answer and simply walked past the paparazzi.
