Rising Toronto rapper and freshly minted OVO Sound signee Smiley has dropped a new single and music video “Breakdown.”

The ominous, Harry James-produced track sees Smiley oscilate between knee-slapping boasts (“She eatin’ my dick like it’s cinnamon/She love it, she do it again and again”) and darker street bars (“Got a Glock with a laser that zap you/Came from whippin’ the work in the back room”), delivered in his signature unhurried flow.

The accompanying video, directed by Jonass Picasso, sees Smiley embrace his newfound rap-star lifestyle in L.A., kicking back in a mansion with some ladies and whipping around town in a supercar. He rocks a slick OVO x Raptors varsity jacket throughout.

“Breakdown” is the latest single from Buy or Buy 2, the sequel to Smiley’s 2018 breakout album, which is dropping next Friday. He just shared the tracklist for the project:

This summer Smiley took the biggest leap of his career when he released “Over the Top,” a flossy track featuring Drake. Shortly after the single dropped, the rapper was added to OVO Sound’s roster.

Earlier this week, Smiley posted a motivational video featuring himself and Drake in a boxing ring, post-workout. “I love this guy right here,” says Drizzy in the clip. “Super proud of him. Not just his fitness journey, but just proud of him being from my city, doing incredible things.”

Smiley has been posting #MotivationMonday videos on IG since embarking on a new health regimen earlier this year. “It means a lot to me that I’m inspiring people,” he told Complex Canada when we caught up with him in May. “That actually makes me feel better than anything! Like, the fact that I could actually motivate people is sick.”
