Sheff G has released a new song called “Drum Dummy” along with its animated, reflective music video in honor of his 23rd birthday, which he is unfortunately spending behind bars.

“Although currently incarcerated, Sheff wanted to share this song to thank his fans for supporting him during this time,” reads a press release for “Drum Dummy.” “This new melodic softhearted record, produced by WC producer Great John, captures his pain and tough upbringing in Flatbush, showing that his spirit is still going.”

Sheff G’s latest track comes after the Flatbush MC released “Run It Up,” which featured Sleepy Hallow and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. It remains unclear if either of these tracks will appear on the follow-up to Sheff’s 2020 project Proud of Me Now.

Back in July, the rapper was arrested for second-degree felony gun possession in New York City. According to court documents obtained by XXL, Sheff was booked into Otis Bantum Correctional Center in East Elmhurst, New York. He was denied bail and remains locked up.

Sheff also ran into legal trouble in January, when he was pulled over for allegedly driving recklessly without a license plate. NYPD officers searched the vehicle and obtained a loaded .45-caliber Glock. The officers took Sheff into custody and charged him with reckless driving, a license plate display violation, and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Sheff was released after posting $35,000 bail.
