Toronto-based R&B singer Savannah Ré is back with her latest EP No Weapons, her first project since 2020, and a new video for single “WTF.”
Off the heels of popular tracks like “Closure” and “Last One,” assisted by rising Toronto songwriter Dylan Sinclair, Ré looks back on a tumultuous relationship that she learned to grow out of. LA-based Mez also appears on the track “Bands.”
“This project is just a lot more of where I am now, which is kind of in this empowered, unapologetic, ‘I’m here’ type of phase,” she told Complex Canada earlier this year.
The video was directed by Dragan Andic.
Across the 6 tracks, Ré sings about fights that ended up blowing up on “Last One” (“Firefighter way you putting flames out / I’m kerosene, babe”), and dealing with liars on “WTF” (“A million times, all you ever did was lie so / what the fuck is love for”).
Ré’s husband YogiTheProducer assisted with production on all six tracks, enlisting OVO’s Boi-1da on “Closure” and “WTF.” (He also appeared on Beyoncé’s Renaissance earlier this year.) Beat Butcha helped co-produce “Bands.”
At the 2022 Juno Awards, Savannah Ré took home the prize for “Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year” for her song “24hrs.” She also won the same award in 2021 for her track “Solid.”
