Following the release of Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, Lupe Fiasco has delivered his own take on the album’s opening track with a new freestyle.

Tackling “Champagne Poetry,” the reflective two-part opener to CLB, Lupe’s “Diet Soda Poetry” arrives after the rapper praised Drizzy’s original version on Twitter. “’Champagne Poetry’ is my #1 running it back to back,” he wrote on the release day. “If y’all find that beat floating give me a sign.” After tweeting out some bars he had in mind for the track, he’s now shared his freestyle.

“I listened to Donda, I also listened to Kanye’s real life that means I’m real twice,” he raps on the track. "Just left album mode with me and my n***a Trakk/And Drake dropped this shit, got me thinking about going back," he closes out the track, hinting that a follow-up to 2018’s Drogas Wave could be on the way soon.

Lupe Fiasco has mostly kept quiet on the music front since releasing Drogas Wave back in 2018. He did drop a collaborative EP with producer Kaelin Ellis last year. Just last month, he tweeted that his next project is “my Illmatic,” referring to Nas’ classic debut album.
