Lil Nas X and YoungBoy Never Broke Again have teamed up for “Late to da Party,” a track that sees them take aim at the BET Awards. Nas X also shared the track’s official music video.

After countless teases, the “Old Town Road” rapper’s long-awaited new single is here. Featuring a hook that features a not-so-subtle diss directed at BET, whom Nas X accused of snubbing him earlier this year, “Late to da Party” follows the release of his Montero single “Lost in the Citadel” from earlier this year. The rapper recently built up some hype for the song with a series of hilarious fake brand partnerships, including one with Grindr and another with the Homophobic Dog meme.

In a statement provided to Complex, BET responded to the rapper’s criticism and the new track.

“We love Lil Nas X. He was nominated for a Best New Artist BET Award in 2020, and we proudly showcased his extraordinary talent and creativity on the show twice: he performed ‘Old Town Road’ with Billy Ray Cyrus at ‘BET Awards’ 2019 and his ‘BET Awards’ 2021 performance was a highlight of our show. No one cheered louder that night than BET,” a spokesperson for the network said.

“Unfortunately, this year, he was not nominated by BET’s Voting Academy, which is comprised of an esteemed group of nearly 500 entertainment professionals in the fields of music, television, film, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations, influencers, and creative arts,” continued BET’s statement. “No one from BET serves as a member of the Voting Academy. At BET, we are passionate advocates for the wonderful diversity that exists within our community. We are committed to using all of our platforms to provide visibility and inclusion for all of the many intersections of the Black community.”

Lil Nas X recently announced his Long Live Montero Tour, which kicks off this September in Michigan.
