A teenager has been charged in the murder of popular Philadelphia rapper YBC Dul.
Fox 29 reports that 16-year-old Aiden Waters is accused of shooting Dul, real name Abdul Vicks, in North Philadelphia last month. Vicks is thought to have been affiliated with the street gang YBC, which stands for Young Bag Chasers.
Philadelphia’s District Attorney Larry Krasner also revealed that Waters is charged with killing two and wounding others as part of a “shooting group” referred to as “Fast Break.”
Investigators believe that just days before the shooting of YBC Dul, Waters allegedly fired a weapon into a car that carried multiple teens, resulting in the death of a 16-year old and an injury of another.
Fox 29 also reports that Waters was involved in a double-shooting a day before which resulted in the injuries of a 43-year-old and 14-year old.
Waters has officially been charged with multiple counts of murder for these shootings as well as other violent offenses like aggravated assault, attempted murder, and gun charges.
Speaking about Waters’ arrest, Philadelphia’s Assistant District Attorney Cydney Pope said of the violence, “It’s clout chasing, that’s what we call it. It’s what everyone calls it — looking for notoriety, looking to make a name for yourself.”
In a message to parents that own guns, another of Philadelphia’s Assistant District Attorneys, William Fritze, asked them to “recover the firearms that are in your homes, in the basements, under the rafters. Call the police, tell them you’ve recovered a gun in your house.”
YBC Dul was shot and killed on Aug. 23. While at a stoplight, a vehicle reportedly pulled up beside him and fired multiple shots into the driver’s side of the vehicle, striking the rapper in his chest and hand. He was 25 years old.
Dul was known across the internet as an important voice in Philadelphia’s drill rap scene, known for being as disrespectful as possible toward those he disliked. Just one day before the shooting, Vicks appeared in a video published by popular YouTuber Brandon Buckingham. Buckingham, known for taking his film crew into risky areas across the U.S., featured Vicks in the video titled The Most Hated Rapper in Philadelphia — Life as Mr. Disrespectful. The video has since amassed over 1.4 million views at the time of writing.
