Pink Says Sitting in Christina Aguilera’s Chair Made Singer Want to Fight on “Lady Marmalade” Set

The Pink and Christina Aguilera issues of years gone by have long been the subject of repeated inquiries. Here, Pink looks back on the "Lady Marmalade" shoot.

Pink has noted that sometimes people simply “don’t get along” while looking back on an oft-cited alleged incident involving Christina Aguilera.

During a recent interview on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? for HBO Max and CNN, Pink—whose Trustfall album arrived earlier this month—briefly looked back on the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack hit “Lady Marmalade.” This version of the song, released in 2001, saw Pink and Aguilera collaborating as part of a larger assortment of top-tier stars that also featured Lil’ Kim and Mya.

When discussing the shoot behind the Paul Hunter-directed video, Pink was asked if Aguilera did indeed want to “have a fight” with her.

“She did,” Pink told Wallace. “She was upset that I was sitting in her chair and was going to shut down the entire production. I didn’t know I was sitting in her chair. … I was homeless at 15. Like, you can’t talk to me any kind of way. So you know, you picked the wrong one. But that’s over. It’s over.”

When Wallace asserted that the story remained “interesting” despite it being “over,” Pink agreed while also putting it into perspective.

“It is an interesting story but it probably happens every day in every workplace,” she said. “Some people don’t get along and then they figure it out and they realize what’s important and they hug it out and they move on.”

As fans are aware, this is not the first time such matters have been discussed in a public and decidedly headlineable fashion. During a Watch What Happens Live appearance back in 2017, for example, Pink said she and Aguilera were both “young and new” at the time and both had a lot to learn.

“Women have to learn how to support each other,” she said at the time. “It’s not taught to us on the playground.” In the same 2017 chat, Pink said Aguilera once “swung on me in a club,” although she also confirmed they had since set aside their apparent issues. Pink also discussed the video’s production in a BuzzFeed UK interview this month.

As for Aguilera, she said during her own Watch What Happens Live appearance in 2019 that she “had a different memory” and denied swinging on Pink at the club.
