The estate for late Wu-Tang legend Ol' Dirty Bastard is launching its own cryptocurrency, the aptly named Dirty Coin.
"Bitcoin is the future of money and all the fans want a part of the future of Ol' Dirty Bastard," Young Dirty, ODB's son, said in a press release Tuesday announcing the estate's collaboration with Link Media Partners. "In the past, Dad's music was ahead of its time, so it makes sense that he would be ahead of the technology of money now."
The Link Media x ODB Estate collab will see the formation of approved cryptocurrency and blockchain tech-based products for future musical endeavors, starting with projects related to Young Dirty's upcoming debut album. The Dirty Coin will give fans the chance to check out exclusive merchandise and music from ODB, as well as tours and shows from Young Dirty. Trading will take place on AltMarket later this year.
Young Dirty is in the middle of sessions for the album now and is shooting for a Fall 2018 drop. The untitled debut will be supported by a tour with Digital Underground. The partnership, Link Media CEO Hakim Draper said, will allow for the implementation of "exciting new ways" for young artists to connect with their fans without label backing.
The cryptocurrency rush has made a huge impact on the music industry at large. Last week, we reported that the influence of none other than Lil Uzi Vert had resulted in someone starting up Dripcoin. Back in December, multiple artists—including Fall Out Boy and G-Eazy—said they'd be accepting Monero during the holidays as part of the open-source currency's Project Coral Reef initiative.
