At least once a week, I like to Google "Mike Will Made-It production discography" so I can weep at how stacked this guy's catalog is. At just 27 years old, Mike Will has worked on a slew of instaclassic tracks for everyone from Miley Cyrus to Kanye West to this year's champs, the "Black Beatles" duo of Rae Sremmurd.
For an expansive two-hour chat as part of Red Bull Music Academy's lecture series, Mike Will spoke candidly about his multi-genre career. For Mike Will, his journey to becoming one of the most sought-after producers in the game started with his father giving him his first Korg ES-1 sampler. From there, well, the rest is indeed history.
Mike Will also discussed his earliest beats, the moment Gucci Mane first heard his work, and his role in bringing Beyoncé's Grammy-nominated Lemonade to life. Specific tracks discussed include Gucci's "Star Status Freestyle," Miley's "We Can't Stop," Meek Mill and Rick Ross' "Tupac Back," and of course Rae Sremmurd's chart-smashing "Black Beatles."
This lecture from Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal featuring Mike Will Made-It is highlighted in Red Bull's 20 Before 17, a series that looks at the biggest moments Red Bull had to offer in musical form this year. For more on Red Bull’s 20 Before 17, check here.
