The topic was recently revived with Weezy again shouting out Jay for inspiring him to stop writing down his lyrics.

Meek Mill, like Lil Wayne, credits Jay-Z with helping inspire him to stop writing his lyrics down. In fact, Meek considers HOV and Weezy to have both been influential in this change to his songwriting approach.

“I stop writing lyrics down when I seen [Jay-Z] then I seen Wayne do it next!” Meek wrote in a recent Instagram Stories update, adding that this revelation was a “super fact.”

Meek’s remarks were made in response to Weezy’s recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast, during which the prolific songwriter again spoke on the undeniable influence Jay had on his creative process.

"Like Biggie, love Biggie, love Jadakiss — I love all that shit, but Jay. The moment I heard it I stopped," Wayne, whose 2002 rack “10,000 Bars” marks the last time he wrote down his lyrics, said. “You could ask my boy. 'I heard that n***a Jay-Z don't write no more.'"

Of course, Weezy's love of the craft, as well as his unique approach to it, have long been the source of fascination for fans. Like Jay before him, Weezy has undeniably influenced younger artists who started their own songwriting journey after him.

Meanwhile, Jay's legacy is currently being celebrated with a new exhibition at Brooklyn Public Library. Titled The Book of HOV, the exhibition is billed as a multi-level exploration of Jay’s “extraordinary journey from Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects to global figure.”

Lil Uzi Vert, Questlove, Jay’s mom Gloria Carter and her wife Roxanne Wiltshire, and many more showed up for the exhibition’s launch last week.
