After a round of apparently masterful ping pong backstage, Meek Mill joined Ellen DeGeneres in front of a live studio audience to discuss his continued efforts in bringing about criminal justice reform.

"A lot of people would see somebody [and say] 'Oh, he violated probation,' but it could have been loitering at Starbucks, it could have been anything," Mill told DeGeneres of the harsh terms many people find themselves under while on probation. "Police contact is a violation [of probation]. So, a lot of people would say 'Oh, he belongs in jail.' But I didn't commit a crime."

Later in the discussion, Mill recalled the moment he found out he was being released earlier this year and thanked fans, as well as DeGeneres, for their support. "A lot of these things don't make sense and everybody knows they don't make sense but nobody focuses on changing the system," he said, later shouting out those who are currently locked up and feeling "voiceless."

Friday, Mill will release his fourth album, Championships. The Legends of the Summer followup boasts guest spots from Cardi B and Fabolous, a Beyoncé interpolation, and more. "Most rap careers [would find it] hard to make it through the things I've been through," he told Vulture earlier this week.

The new album will be supported with the Motivation Tour, which kicks off Feb. 19 in Miami.
