C-Murder is urging older artists to “stop hating” on newer generations of creative voices, specifically shouting out the unparalleled success of YoungBoy Never Broke Again.
In an Instagram update over the weekend, C-Murder praised YoungBoy as "the Soulja Slim of the new generation." The late Soulja Slim, of course, was a fellow No Limit artist most known for his posthumous appearance on Juvenile's Cash Money hit "Slow Motion" in 2004.
“I want to ask the older cats to stop hating on our new generation that rap,” C-Murder said on Sunday. “These dudes really eating and it’s all legal. NBA Youngboy keeping it realer with me than any n***a I know. However it go, I’m rolling with him in war or peace. He’s my Soulja Slim of the new generation.”
The respect is mutual. Last year, YoungBoy Never Broke Again flipped C-Murder’s 1999 track “Like a Jungle” for his own “Like a Jungle (Out Numbered).” Earlier in 2022, C-Murder shared the track “Dear Young Boy,” which saw him speaking directly to the younger artist about the ins and outs of success in the music industry.
C-Murder, who's real name is Corey Miller, is currently behind bars in Louisiana in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old Steve Thomas. The rapper has maintained his innocence in the case while drawing a number of vocal supporters pushing for his release. Kim Kardashian, for example, shared an extended public awareness statement on the case with her social media followers earlier this month.
"Louisiana recently enacted a new law that provides innocent people with the ability to raise a post-conviction claim of factual innocence," Kardashian pointed out. "Mr. Miller has raised such a claim and, like all of his prior post-conviction filings, has been denied relief without even so much as an evidentiary hearing. In light of the fact that the only witnesses have completely recanted their testimony, there is absolutely no remaining evidence against Mr. Miller."
