Though 6ix9ine's formal sentencing date isn't until next January, his legal team has a plan in place they hope will hasten his release from prison.
According to a report from TMZ, 6ix9ine is hoping to be out before year's end by way of more guilty pleas in connection with his November 2018 arrest. 6ix9ine ultimately pleaded guilty to racketeering and other charges in February, with his former associate Jamel "Mel Murda" Jones pleading guilty earlier this month. Jensel "Ish" Butler, Faheem "Crippy" Walter, and former manager Kifano "Shotti" Jordan have also pleaded guilty.
6ix9ine's team is banking on all remaining defendants linked to the sprawling case taking similar plea deals, thus effectively collapsing the trial. If that happens, attorney Dawn Florio told TMZ Monday, a judge will be asked to give 6ix9ine time served, which would count the months he's spent behind bars since the initial arrest. One of the remaining defendants has moved to dismiss the charges, which could potentially stall plans enough to push proceedings to trial unless a deal is met.
The time served push was previously mentioned amid court activity connected with the return of attorney Lance Lazzaro, who had been temporarily removed from the case back in January due to his previous representation of other defendants. Last month, both Florio and Lazzaro affirmed their support for advocating for a time served sentencing.
As it stands now, 6ix9ine is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 24, 2020. Per Florio's recent comments to the court, he's "holding up very well."
