Sombr is speaking out after a TikTok critic’s harsh review of his concert went viral.
The 20-year-old musician addressed the backlash in a recent TikTok, following a video from a 25-year-old creator who claimed she had the worst concert experience of her life”at one of Sombr’s shows. In her post, the woman described Sombr’s performance as “cringe,” his jokes as “vulgar,” and his dancing and vocals as “terrible.” According to the woman, he also asked the audience to bark for him and call him "daddy."
The woman also said that anyone “over the age of 16” should avoid attending his shows, comparing the rising artist to “Slenderman.” Sombr responded with humor and a bit of frustration.
“I thought I was chronically online, but it’s just come to my attention that there’s a TikTok drama going around,” he said on TikTok. “Because a 25-year-old attended my concert and was basically complaining that there were too many tweens there, I was making too many brain rot jokes, and she just thought it was a cringe concert.”
While acknowledging everyone’s right to an opinion, Sombr pointed out the age gap: “I totally respect people having opinions, but I am a 20-year-old artist — freshly 20. And if you’re 25 years old, and you’re going to come to my concert and not expect people younger than you to be there, when I the artist am five years younger than you, it’s just a skill issue.”
The singer also addressed the “Slenderman” comparison, calling it the start of “a massive body-shaming hate train.”
“Everyone is welcome in my concert, and I mean everyone,” Sombr said. “You guys need to find problematic people to hate on, because I am just existing.”
Despite the criticism, Sombr’s career continues to rise. After breaking out with his hit single “Back to Friends,” the young artist recently topped the Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters chart.
