2Pac had his sights set on dissing Common during his beef with Ice Cube in the mid-'90s, according to a story by the late rapper's former protégé Napoleon.

During his sitdown conversation with The Art of Dialogue, Napoleon said 'Pac was a huge fan of Cube and wanted to defend him in his beef with Common. However, the only problem was that Shakur had his own issues with the N.W.A veteran.

"I remember when the East Coast/West Coast thing was heating up, I think Common and Cube was going through their beef, like they were dissing each other," Napoleon said. "I remember 'Pac was like, 'See, if I was cool with Cube right now, I'd be going after Common for him, but now I'm staying out of it.'"

He continued, "'Pac had a lot of love for Cube. I never heard him say anything negative about him. I think at one particular time they were closer, and maybe they just went their separate ways. But that's the only thing I heard him say about Cube, but he definitely respected Cube."

Napoleon went on to say that 2Pac and Common were pretty much the same person, and the former Death Row rapper would've instantly regretted getting into a beef with someone so similar to himself.

"Good thing he didn't go at Common 'cause they like the same. If they ever had met each other, they would've had a lot of love and respect for each other," Napoleon said.

Ice Cube dissed Common way back in 1995 on Mack 10's track "Westside Slaughterhouse" in response to the Chicago native's song "I Used to Love H.E.R." Cube felt Common's track was a diss against the West Coast and that he had to clap back.

Common responded with "The Bitch In Yoo," but the two managed to find common ground after a meeting with Minister Louis Farrakhan in 1997.
