Lunice and The Alchemist

"Let the poppers pop and the breakers break" is a line known worldwide that pays tribute to the heads who love to get loose to the sounds of hip-hop. There was a gang of popping and breaking that went down at the Red Bull BC One World Finals, but one thing that's known is that every popper, locker, and breakdancer needs fire music to get down to. That's where Lunice and The Alchemist come in.

Production legends in their own right, no one probably thought Lunice and The Alchemist would've brought their sounds together for a joint project. Lunice is known more for his hip-hop-influenced electronic sounds, exciting crowds with his solo work as well as his material with Hudson Mohawke as TNGHT, while The Alchemist is your favorite MC's favorite producer, crafting hypnotic tapestries for everyone from Mobb Deep to Action Bronson. For their collaboration, they were tasked with crafting sounds for the Red Bull BC One World Finals, which is known as the world's premier breaking competition.

The Finals, which went down on Nov. 4 in Amsterdam, featured cuts from Lunice and Alchemist sessions, which Lunice described as "a new rendition of breakbeats." It's an intriguing mixture, taking the more thump-heavy sounds from Lunice with the dustier sounds and samples from Alchemist, who says there was "a similarity in the sinister" sounds that the two of them rock. As you can see in the video up above, they even got session musicians to play music that they then would dissect into their own original samples.

These tracks became Moving Parts, an EP of material from Lunice and The Alchemist that features material like "Vibration," which you can stream below. The hypnotic melodies, mixed with those the percussion-heavy beats, is just ripe for the dance floor. It's an intoxicating sound that might have you going for yours in your seat, trust.
