Where does Post Malone go when heâs looking to write a hit song? The crapper, apparently.
The 26-year-old artist shared the information during his debut appearance on The Howard Stern Show this week, where he candidly discussed his unorthodox approach to songwriting.
âShit literally comes to me because I write all my songs on the can,â he admitted. âIâd say about 30 percent of all my albums have been written on the shitter. And Iâd say 60 percent of lyrics have been written on the shitter.â
Malone then asked Howard to share the average time he spends on the toilet. The host said he tries to keep it under 2 minutes, which is significantly less than Maloneâs average time.Â
âIâm like hour and a half, two hours,â the artist said. âI have a notepad. So itâs not the iPhone notes or the iTunes notes or whatever it is. I have a special notepad off to the side where I can write my shit. Itâs a digital journal [...] Itâs my special zone, âcause no one wants to come talk to you while youâre taking a shit. No one. I donât care who it is.
Posty wouldnât say whether heâs âpushingâ throughout his lengthy songwriting process or was simply sitting on the toilet so he wouldnât be disturbed. Howard then warned the artist about extended periods on the toilet, as it could result in hemorrhoids. Malone didnât seem too concerned.
âDoes your fiancĂ©e ever say, âListen, Post. I love you, but for Christâs sake, youâre disappearing for two hours on the can. Now you gotta get out and you gotta mingle a little bit,ââ Howard said. âItâs too much of a hideaway.â
âI wouldnât say itâs a hideaway as much as itâs an oasis,â Malone explained.
