Gunna Shares New Album 'A Gift & A Curse'

The effort marks the rapper's first full-length release since he got out of jail in late 2022.

Gunna is commemorating his birthday week with new music.

The College Park native—who turned 30 on Wednesday—has returned with A Gift & A Curse, his first album since he got out of jail in December 2022, released through Young Stoner Life Records. The 15-track, 45-minute, guest-free release follows Gunna’s chart-topping January 2022 album DS4EVER.

Gunna began teasing the project more than a month ago when a fan page questioned why he had been so silent throughout 2023. “I'm OTW,” he wrote, suggesting he had new material coming right up.

The artist came through on June 2 with his single “Bread & Butter,” in which he addressed the YSL RICO case and snitching allegations he faced following his plea deal. “Never gave no statement or agreed to take no stand on ’em,” he rapped on the second verse. “On whatever you n***as on, then trust me I’mma stand on it/Lawyers and that DA did some sneaky shit, I fell for it/On my P’s and Q’s because this time I be prepared for it.”

The verse also referenced an unnamed individual who allegedly betrayed Gunna amid the snitching controversy. “You switched on me when you know you in business with a rat,” he spits. “And the boy that’s like your brother, ain’t nobody speak on that.”

Many were convinced the lines were taking aim at Gunna’s many-time collaborator Lil Baby, which he swiftly denied.

Now that A Gift & A Curse has arrived, fans are finding more bars pertaining to the YSL case and Gunna's plea, like on "I Was Just Thinking."

"That's four walls talkin' to you, tellin' you you gone/Only I done cried, 'cause this feelin' for my bro (King Slime)," he ruminates. "And you know my mind, you done watched that n***a grow/Know you hear the lies, it's your lil' brother, my folk/Yeah, I had popped out, but don't let 'em say I told."
