Stormzy returns with new single “The Weekend”, this time in collaboration with RAYE.
In just shy of a month, we’ve now had three singles from Big Mikey—“Toxic Trait” with Fredo, followed by “Longevity Flow” just four days later, and now “The Weekend”.
This isn’t the first time that Stormzy and RAYE have connected in the studio. Their last on-wax team-up was “Ambition”, the closing track on RAYE’s 2016 project, SECOND. Despite being firm friends “from the same ends”, this is the first time they’ve got back in the studio together since.
The new single is a breezy, laid-back affair and the gentle knock of the production, which was co-created by RAYE and London, means it’s purpose built for hot and humid summer days.
Naturally, there’s a video for this one and it taps it into that same intensive humidity. Shot between nightclub settings and some of Stormzy and RAYE’s local hangouts, director Omar Jones follows the pair on their romantic game of cat-and-mouse as they coyly dance around each other.
