After releasing his third studio album, This Is What I Mean, in December 2022, Stormzy returns with his first drop for 2023 via new single, “Toxic Trait”. The track features West London rapper Fredo and was produced by Santan Dave.

“Toxic Trait” sees Croydon’s Stormzy get back in his rap bully bag—a bag which a number of critics have been yearning for him to return to for quite a while—as he laces Dave’s drill-leaning beat for the win. Fredo adds his gangster charm to the mix and joins Big Mikey in sharing what makes him toxic—in relationships, in life—and the result is a track that has all the catchiness needed for a future chart smash.

“After listening to the lyrics, I wanted to have fun with this video,” says video director Femi Ladi. “I liked the idea of bringing a renaissance-style painting to life, whilst still feeling grounded in the world of Stormzy. We collaborated on all the scenarios together, which was great, as well as being able to bring in the likes of Fredo and Alison Hammond for their own toxic therapy sessions.”
