R&B singer-songwriter Kevin McCall believes that the fallout between him and Chris Brown has caused him to be omitted from the singer’s career journey.
McCall, who alleged last year that the Brown artist owes him $25,000, spoke about why he’s estranged from the 2-time Grammy winner on the June 12 episode of TFU Podcast. Brown has repeatedly trolled McCall over the financial dispute, although McCall is credited as a songwriter on his hits including “She Ain’t You,” “Strip” and “Deuces,” the latter two he was featured on.
“I don't think I'll ever know ‘cause nobody ever has the opportunity to ask him that. I don't think they feel like I'm important enough,” McCall explained around the 1:12:00 mark of the video below.
The songwriter added that he’s perceived as an “extra” in Brown’s movie, although he thinks of the singer as being a “big character” in his storyline.
“They want to erase me out the story,” McCall continued. “But a lot of experiences I've had after being around him, I could how people and people done got beside they self and I had to cut them off. And so I know the difference between that and I've also felt like I had to burn bridges so that I don't keep taking the bait.”
The songwriter added that he’s learn to keep from “hurting” himself by severing ties with Brown and his team because of their financial dispute.
“If worked at Burger King and you did your job and they didn't pay you for 10 years and they said, ‘Stop crying about it. Just put your head down and keep working,’ you will say, ‘I'm crazy,’ McCall said. “Well, I've been working for 10 years and they won't pay me.”
In October 2025, McCall tearfully claimed on podcast BackonFigg that Brown owed him $25,000 for 4 songs that he wrote, and shared that he relies on EBT, which he believed was unfair considering that Brown’s Breezy Bowl grossed over $295 million.
